Around 600,000 people die of malaria every year, most of them children under 5. The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that malaria control has prevented about 14 million deaths since 2000. Bed nets have done more than any other measure: one study found they accounted for about two thirds of the malaria cases prevented in Africa between 2000 and 2015. According to GiveWell, AMF's work has exceptionally strong evidence of its impact.
Fighting malaria also benefits the economy. AMF estimates that every million dollars spent on fighting malaria adds 12 million dollars to the African continent's GDP.
AMF works to prevent malaria, mainly in Africa, by getting protective mosquito nets to people. Malaria is spread by mosquitoes, which infect people by biting them, mostly late in the evening and at night. This is why sleeping under a net is a very effective way to avoid catching malaria.
AMF:
AMF is among the most effective charities recommended by the independent charity evaluator GiveWell. GiveWell estimates that buying and distributing one net costs around 5 US dollars. Each net distributed protects on average two people from malaria for about two years.
We simplify tax-deductible giving from Estonia to the world's most effective charities. On our platform you can donate to several organisations at once and choose how your donation is split between them. Donations made through Anneta Targalt are automatically included in your Estonian tax return. Donating through Anneta Targalt has no transaction fees, and because we pass the donations collected so far on to the charities once a quarter, the transfer fees stay minimal thanks to the larger amounts.
